Cute Stuff

I made some time recently to paint a few cute things for some stationary to send out to a few friends. The owl colors were based off a box of chocolates I got as a gift, and it ended up being very colorful-almost too colorful! The dog is based off of a friend's dog...although I forget what the breed is called!

Found Baby Rat

Co-workers found this little baby outside on Thursday and no one wanted to get rid of it, so they decided to give it to me (since the last thing found at work was a kitten that became my cat-I know..I'm such a sucker.) Thank goodness for the internet, I found out it was not a baby possum or raccoon, it was a baby rat approximately a week old, and read up on how to take care of it with helpful advice from friends too. Boy did I wish I wasn't such a softie! So here I am, three days later, still caring for this tiny little critter. Of course I can't keep it, it'll have to grow up to be a wild animal, and released eventually. For now, I will try to make it's stay as comfortable as I can but yes, I am using gloves.

In other news, it has been seriously 5 months or more since I've posted anything! I've had a busy holiday season between Thanksgiving, our annual Disneyland trip, Christmas, birthdays and anniversaries and Easter too! Whew, off to drawing!

Amaryllis, a purse, and something blue

A quick sketch of some amaryllis I've been meaning to paint
An old purse and my husband's wallet. For EDM Challenge #3.
I better start adding new ones or I'll never keep up :)
This is Midna, from the Zelda Twilight Princess video game.
I painted her for an art show on Friday 11/18/11 for a Legend of Zelda Art Exhibition celebrating 25 years of the video game series. Hundreds of people came to the event, and she was placed in the front by the entrance, which was pretty cool :)

A sketchy painting mess

So I decided to put together something today. Since I'm horrible at coming up with things from imagination, maybe this is a good start. Below is the sketch that inspired the painting which turned out a lot different with advice from my 3 year old :)

My birthday cake!

It's my twin sister's birthday today too but she didn't get to have cake with me since she lives an hour away and we both worked. I usually make cakes, but I'm taking a break so I decorated this one with my little girl. Up top are dipping cups we used for some colored vanilla icing :)

Trees and Pumpkins and a Lamp (EDM#2 - Draw a desk lamp or other lamp)

Last Saturday my little family enjoyed the nice weather outside and while we ate our lunch and discussed future projects, I sketched one of the Mulberry trees in the yard...but to be honest it had more leaves than the sketch shows

On Sunday we carved pumpkins, my husband did a Donald Duck one from a stencil out of a DVD we purchased recently. I helped my little girl with a Goofy. Then the kids went off to grandma's and we did a date night-we were supposed to go out but my husband hurt his back...so we stayed local.

Monday was Halloween! My little girl got to trick-or-treat around Main Street with her dad, then more treats after work! We were all tired when the night was over and she'll have candy to last until next year
And before you know it, it's Friday already. Tuesday I worked, Wednesday I stayed at the office late, and Thursday I stayed home with the kids-my daughter and I played in her playhouse wearing our red dresses while little brother napped :) Anyway, this is my husband's lamp that I bought for him years ago when we were just girlfriend/boyfriend. For EDM#2 - Draw a desk lamp or other lamp. Plus I just like the lamp :)

At the Playground

I had a great day with a friend at the playground today. Our kids got to run around and enjoy themselves while we chatted and I sketched. Watercolor and ink.
